Kulturhauptstadt 2024

In this year one of Austrias cities will be announced as one of the two European Capitals of Culture. This will be Austrias third time.

Kulturhauptstadt2024.at is a platform for discussing proposals from various cities for the European Capital of Culture in Austria 2024. It was launched by the Technical University of Vienna in autumn 2014 and is by now operational throughout Austria.

The platform’s first project has been introduced as the first common course by most architecture, landscape architecture and planning faculties in Austria. Participating students developed concepts and scenarios for the European Capital of Culture in Austria 2024 while working together in inter-university teams.

From autumn 2015 an exhibition featuring the various student projects will tour Austria. It will also present the first issue of the newspaperkulturhauptstadt2024.at which is devided into three parts: the first offers texts, commentaries, interviews and quotes on the theme itself, the second shows projects that arose out of the urban design course, and the third documents the results of the various courses with an artistic focus. In this first issue the student projects will be highly compressed and in black/white format, so we invite you to visit this exhibition or look at the website.

The traveling exhibition with its forum for discussion is the second project of the platform. In addition to this common inter-university project individual theses on the topic are currently in process. One of the most important objectives of this platform is to stimulate networking and cooperation between universities, institutions and interested cities and regions.
